  • Zea mays.  Also called Hopi Greasy Head or Hopi Purple.  Beautiful, unique plum-colored kernels on 10-12" ears. Often planted early by Hopi farmers so the harvest can be used for the Home Dance ceremony in July. Plants are short (3'). 56 days to pollination, 103 days to dried ears from planting in Patagonia, Arizona (4,000'). Kernels have an oily, or greasy, appearance. This seed lot was grown at Tesuque Pueblo.

The Ute Mt. blue corn seeds have produced plants that are almost three feet by the Fourth of July. The Pueblo pumpkin and melon seeds have come up and look happy and happy.
