  • Pooko - Dog

Pòoko runs across the desert as life-giving rain clouds gather upon the horizon accompanied by butterflies. She also carries elements of prayers - rainclouds that give blessings to all life. Pòoko jumps over a migration spiral beside a friendship symbol representing the historic companionship of dogs and humans. The paw prints next to a person’s footprint celebrate the oldest find in the American Southwest of ancient tracks nearly 3000 years old are preserved in a hardened plant field.  Pòoko has been a companion to the Hopi through their journeys in this world. They are guardians, field protectors, hunting companions, and even bed warmers. They are found in traditional ceremonies, stories, art, and the spiritual world. Dogs have even learned to climb the many ladders found in Pueblo villages.

This is a great series. I will be using some in a little exhibit in the Peter Raven Library at Missouri Botanical Garden in St Louis on Southwest Corn.
