Montezuma Castle Maze - Canvas Print

  • MINICAN
  • Montezuma Castle Maze

Found within Montezuma Castle cliff dwelling, this petroglyph is often called a maze design. Mazes often have confusing pathways, but this design has continuous pathways that reach a specific point. For the Hopi, designs like these are often related to clan migrations. When the Hopi first emerged into this world, they began to migrate outward into the four directions and then return to what is the center of the Hopi world. Behind the maze is a Sinagua textile design. 6" square. Wrapped Canvas.

Gerald Dawavendewa is a member of the Hopi tribe. He grew up in the village of Munqapi, located in northern Arizona. In 1994, Gerald sent an artwork depicting the Hopi cosmos aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour. He is also Author and Illustrator of the children's book "The Butterfly Dance". Gerald's work reflects the rich traditions of his Hopi & Cherokee culture.
