Our Nonprofit Mission

Native Seeds/SEARCH conserves, distributes and documents the adapted and diverse varieties of agricultural seeds, their wild relatives and the role these seeds play in cultures of the American Southwest and northwest Mexico. We promote the use of these ancient crops and their wild relatives by gathering, safeguarding, and distributing their seeds to farming and gardening communities. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Tucson, Arizona.

Seed Library Article in Acres by NS/S Staff

This just in! Acres U.S.A., one of the leading magazines for sustainable agriculture, has just published a feature article by Native Seeds/SEARCH Executive Director Bill McDorman and Development Assistant Stephen Thomas. Titled "Sowing Revolution", the piece explores the burgeoning seed library movement from its roots over 10 years ago in the pioneering Bay Area Seed Interchange Library (BASIL) to the recent explosion of community seed libraries like Richmond Grows, started by Seed School graduate Rebecca Newburn.
